Your character will awaken with an odd wooden pokéball next to them or on their person. This will contain their very first pokémon partner! It will start at level 5.
Your starter can be any pokémon that meets the following requirements, from Gens 1-8, and in any regional form:
- Is the base, non evolved form of an evolution chain (ie Cleffa, Pichu, Zubat, etc.), or is a single stage pokémon (such as Mimikyu, Keckleon, etc.)
- Is not a Legendary or Mythical
- Is not now and will not later evolve into a Pseudo-Legendary
- Is not a Ditto (APPLIES TO STARTER ONLY)
- At this time, we are not allowing your starting pokémon to be shiny, but there will be opportunities to gain shiny forms in the future through events and rewards.

There will be events, participation rewards, and opportunities in game to receive other pokémon, including pseudo-legendaries. If your character is from the pokémon series and canonically has a pokémon that is ineligible under these rules, discuss it with the mods. They may be accepted on a case by case basis.
If you're unsure about a pokemon you want to have, simply ask below. There are no stupid questions.
If you'd like a code to keep track of your team on your journal, feel free to use the one below! This is optional! You don't have to use this code, or post a team tracker, or do any amount of maintenance past knowing what pokémon you have. Feel free to edit fields and colors to suit your needs.

Unfortunately we're not allowing people to begin with shiny pokémon, but there will be events and rewards allowing you to obtain shiny forms in the future, so they're not completely out of the game!

Unfortunately, we worry Ditto might become game breaking or difficult to manage as a result of it's ability to transform into all pokemon. It would be a bit like picking all of the applicable starters at once.
At this time, we are sorry to say that we can't allow ditto as a starter. We're sorry for the inconvenience and lack of clarity - we'll update the page ASAP to reflect this.

Rowlet, Oshawott, and Cyndaquil will be available, yes! We're basically saying that the distortions are dropping in pokémon that are not native to the region and that with the frequency of rift appearances, you can basically catch one any time as a result.
